Mobile Version of the Ubuntu Operating System
Ubuntu Touch is developed and maintained by the UBports Community, a group of volunteers and passionate people from all around the world. We believe that everyone should be free to use, study, share and improve all of our software without restrictions. Every line of source-code we create is distributed under free and open source software licenses endorsed by the Free Software Foundation or the Open Source Initiative.
With Ubuntu Touch we offer a truly unique mobile experience - a viable alternative to Android and iOS. We provide the only free and open source GNU/Linux-based mobile operating system that you can install and use today. On this page you will learn what Ubuntu Touch can do, and if it's the right choice for your personal needs.
Ubuntu Touch has been designed with obsessive attention to detail. Form follows function throughout, from the ever-changing welcome screen to essentials like messaging and alarms. And the Launcher puts it all at your fingertips, whatever you’re doing with your phone.
Free as in freedom
All our software is provided free-of-charge and ad-free and is released under free-software-licenses that respect your freedom to use, study, modify and share the software. Even if you don't know how to read and write code this system ensures that all of our software is written in your best interest.
We are of course not the only project that shares their source code. There are millions of open-source developers around the world! By improving each others software and building on what's already been accomplished, together we can achieve greatness!
Freedom means not being restricted. That is why Ubuntu Touch comes with a fully-featured Ubuntu Terminal pre-installed. But that does not mean that you have to have be an elite hacker to use Ubuntu Touch. The user interface is designed with usability in mind and its intuitive controls make everyone feel at home.
Ready for the future with convergence
Your phone is not just a phone, it can do everything a traditional computer can. And since it's Linux, you can even run exactly the same software you use on your desktop or laptop. If you need a bigger screen, you can simply connect your device to a monitor or TV, and it will expand into a windowed desktop, where you can be just as productive as on a traditional PC.
A large collection of apps
Ubuntu Touch comes pre-installed with a set of solid core apps that cover your daily needs, and many more can easily be downloaded for free. All applications follow the same design guidelines and provide a familiar look-and-feel.
Most Ubuntu Touch development is done by volunteers from the community, but you don't need to know how to write code to help shape the project. Translation, design, quality assurance, community management - there are countless of ways to get involved in our amazing community!
You thought installing Ubuntu Touch was a painful process? Well you are wrong! With the UBports Installer, setting up Ubuntu Touch has never been easier! Just follow the on-screen instructions, sit back and watch your PC do all the work!
